    Do “Through train” enthusiasts exist?

I did Liverpool - Cleethorpes and return a couple of years ago when TPE were selling tickets for £1.

Day trip into Central London by train (Euston) on a weekday - 241 rail offer etc?

It‘s definitely worth buying a day travel card as part of your LNWR ticket, although I recall that there was talk of them being phased out. I bought one of these a couple of years ago as part of a return from Crewe to Euston and it only added £3 or so to the ticket cost (with a senior...

Manchester to Garforth on Sat 31st - Halifax station? Type of train??

The seats are far more comfortable on 150s and 158s that they are on the 195s.

    London - Edinburgh

Take her in first class - I’m sure she’d like that!

Avanti to Preston and middle of the night cab to Edinburgh

Exactly. If the train had carried on to Carlisle it would have allowed some time to organise taxis and/or buses from there. That would however have needed a bit of lateral thinking and a willingness to work on behalf of the crews. Avanti is run for the benefit of its staff - not its customers.

How difficult is it to arrive or leave at all timetabled platforms. 5 year project to achieve this.

Scary costs indeed. Station car parks are annoyingly expensive.

As well as keeping a record of stations and platforms are you keeping a record of total costs?

Camper van pick up point - help requested

Penyffordd would work. The car park is large and the station is on the A5104 which will take you to Corwen and thence to Bala in an hour or so. The biggest problem will be in your getting there from Bletchley. Your quickest route would be train to Chester then a taxi. Otherwise you probably...

    DON-YRK / YRK-WKF-DON - best return ticket option?

If you haven’t already done so download the LNER app and use it to book your tickets. You’ll get a fiver off.

    Avanti First Class meals

If you use advance tickets then an on-the-day upgrade to Standard Premium is actually not good value. I paid £34.80 for the northbound leg and £28.40 for the southbound (with a senior railcard). Standard class advance tickets with on-train upgrades would have been more expensive.

    Avanti First Class meals

Not back to normal by any means. Travelled today on the 09:27 WBQ - EDI and back on the 18:40 GLC - WBQ. Bacon roll on the morning train and a Chicken wrap on the way back (with no alternative - that’s all they had!). Adequate to stave off the hunger pangs but nothing to write home about.

    Euston - Chester Advance Tickets?

It takes longer of course but LNWR are offering advances between EUS & CRE. You could top that up with a return CRE - CTR. There are some Avanti advance fares available for evening travel which is what I would use for a return journey but I guess that’s no good to you on the outward leg.

    Euston - Chester Advance Tickets?

Perhaps the tickets haven’t yet been released. They are available in August and I booked one for later this month some 2/3 weeks ago. It was cheaper to do a split ticket at Crewe.

    Your walks

Getting a little bored with repeating the same loops in the local neighbourhood. Noticed that the diesel-hybrid 230s are on test on the borderlands Wrexham - Bidston line.
