At least Corfe Mullen gets a later bus back from Wimborne with the 22:40 route 4 journey becoming a route 3 journey. Even with that change, Merley will still have six evening journeys from Wimborne after 20:45.
Southampton - Hedge End Village is being increased to half-hourly with the introduction of the 26, which will run hourly Monday to Saturday in conjunction with the 3. The 26 won’t serve the Sainsbury’s/M&S however, instead running direct towards the village centre along Upper Northam Road.
It is. And a great use of number too! Coincidence or not, the 26 was historically allocated to the long-standing route between Southampton and Fareham via Botley, which lasted in its complete form until 2005.
Drifting into speculative territory here, but I wonder if it would be worthwhile sending the fast Portsmouth trains via the New Guildford Line, so that the paths via Woking can be used for an additional half-hourly Waterloo - Woking stopper which extends to Guildford. No direct links would be...
I think it would have been better overall to increase VAT on all energy (electricity, gas etc) to a rate slightly below that of fuel duty (let’s say 15%), with a “domestic use” reimbursement for the poorest households to offset the additional costs they would have to incur for non-motoring...
Bluestar have just published their latest timetable revision commencing Sunday 30th August on their website. Key changes include:
3: Sunday service reduced to 2-hourly, to interwork with new route 26. No longer serves Turnpike Way in Hedge End.
6: New half-hourly route between Southampton City...
Okay, that particular suggestion may have been a bit OTT, but the point remains that Woking to Basingstoke needs an increase in train capacity on what we have today. I’m sure that can be achieved for now by reintroducing the Waterloo to Southampton stopper and lengthening the West of England...
I definitely agree that the Weymouths should not have any additional stops added, both on grounds of speed and capacity. In an ideal world, the solution would be to run a twice-hourly crack express* to Weymouth, with separate Poole-semi fasts running directly behind them picking up the calls at...
Late to the party, but I have to admit that the livery looks much better than what I was expecting. The base blue is the perfect shade in my opinion, and for someone coming from SWR land, is a welcome resemblance to the old SWT blue livery, much better than the current grey affair.
I do agree...
As this thread is about Spoonerisms, surely it’s only natural to have Rooner Spow, whatever that may mean.
Or moving from stations to pubs, how about Spetherwoons.
I acknowledge that I expanded the scope of this thread to include West Coastway services, and another member subsequently added SWML metro routes to which I replied. Where one set of infrastructure (in this case the SWML country lines) is co-dependent on another (SWML Metro, Coastway, Wessex...
Alton trains could skip Esher, Hersham and Byfleet & New Haw, if demand for those stations doesn’t warrant 4tph.
I propose to keep the Weybridge terminators in addition to the Woking ones, providing a 4tph frequency for Waterloo - Hounslow - Addlestone.
Been thinking about the SWML and Windsor Line metro routes lately, and it has got me wondering how you could achieve a standardised 4tph service on each of the branches. Assuming 20tph on the SWML slows out of Waterloo is feasible, I would be looking at 8tph going towards Kingston, 8tph going...
