Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

You are assuming the fire is being caused by the train? Are passenger not capa le of starting fires. If you stop the train, who will put the fire out.

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

That is fine , you are a fire expert and you have carried out modelling to establish that fact. Those who built Grenfield Tower and the LFB were very confident too until loads of people got killed. This seems to be amount money, cram as many people in trains as possible

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

Sorry do not agree .i hate travelling on cattle trucks but that is the reality of travelling by train on many occasions. I find the attitude to safety mind blowing as the industry is alway crowing about it, hold a handrail, do not slip. Maybe what is required is a fire on a train where people...

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

If we cannot evacuate people safely , then we should admit train travel is not safe and people travel at their own risk

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

Who said anything about uncontrolled. Lovely, you have a choice of dying by smoke , fire on the train or dying by electricution or being hit by a train. Safety is our number 1 priority....

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

The problem is luggage not passenger standing. Compulsory seat reservations are not the answer. The overhead racks are not big enough to accomodate bigger cases. The installation of airline overhead bins would solve a lot of issues. However this would cost money Sadly the railway does not will...

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

"It isnt really a safety issue"... the railway industry crows about safety is our number 1, priority. How can stopping people exit a train in the case of a fire or other emergency be anything other than a safety issue? Having seen a family including burnt to death forgive me if I object to such...

Evacuation in emergency - escape routes blocked

I have travelled recently where trains have been full of people standing in carriages and by door exists with luggage. The TOCs seem to feel this is acceptable in terms of safety as train managers see it and have not taken action. In the event of an emergency, especially a fire I am curious how...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

I am not suggesting that EVERY train will be empty. However each train has a thousand seats, I am not sure of the 1st Standard mix, and upto 14 trains an hour, bearing in mind an 11 car Pendalino has 589, 25% are First. That is a hell of lot of seats to fill. For those of us who do not get...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

The requirement for additional capacity is valid, however the Government cannot make a valid economic case for it because there is not one. That is why they are getting people like KPMG to come up with exotic theories to justify it. Bottom line where the REAL money coming from to pay for it...

    High Speed Two (HS2) discussion

Hi Chris, I can understand people desire for HS2 as the gold standard, however now the main issue is capacity and not speed , maybe we can look at things in a slightly different way. It is very important to build a consensus and for all parties to feel that they are going to get something out...

Chiltern Railways Class 168 Clubman trains

At first thought I would agree with you, however I would be grateful if you could indulge me as sadly I have only 3 years on the railway and I still believe in miracles. seriously I would like to know I do have sensible suggestion , however a lot depends on what it would take to make this...
