Introduction of connecting bus Stranraer station to Cairnryan ports

I live in Belfast, and am a regular SailRail user.

Introduction of connecting bus Stranraer station to Cairnryan ports

ScotRail originally allowed use of the train on a SailRail ticket for a while after the move to Cairnryan but then stopped this. This is still the case that the ticket is not valid via Stranraer, but there is nothing to stop you paying on the 350 electric bus and buying a £10.50 Stranraer/Ayr...

Introduction of connecting bus Stranraer station to Cairnryan ports

Depends whether you are in a hurry or not. When not in a hurry (and the times suit, ie above) I get the electric bus combined with a £10.50 single between Stranraer and Ayr, rather than enduring the A77 switchback.

Introduction of connecting bus Stranraer station to Cairnryan ports

Er, this is somewhat unfair. The base fares to/from Stranraer were significantly lowered last year. Current single from Glasgow to Stranraer is £12.40 which is very cheap for a 101 mile journey. Prior to that the single was £22.40. (I do not know whether this reduction is permanent.) Return...

    RPSI Irish GM Tours 2013

In case anyone is looking in the future for this - I would suggest 10 minutes minimum. Whilst the two stations are within sight of each other it is not a direct walk. Looking at Google Maps it is easy to plan the walking route as both stations are shown (and in the correct locations - far from...

Caledonian Sleeper arriving 49 minutes early

I suspect the Motherwell departure was only a few seconds early. The Glasgow Central departure is also shown as a minute early but when I looked at my watch (synced with the pips recently!) on starting off from there I thought we were bang on time.

Caledonian Sleeper arriving 49 minutes early

I was on the Caledonian Sleeper from Glasgow to Euston a couple of nights ago and it arrived in Euston 49 minutes early. (http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/G90585/2013/01/23/advanced - link active until 29th January). It looks like this was partly because it was on a revised (slower)...

Cheaper Anytime Return valid on Gatwick Express

Even better value is the £22.10 Anytime Day Return from Gatwick to Acton Main Line (first station out of Paddington). Gatwick to Bethnal Green (first station out of Liverpool Street) is same price as to Finsbury Park. Gatwick to Limehouse (first station out of Fenchurch Street) is £29.20...

    trainscanbecheaper.info

OK, that makes sense. You are right that map AS does not allow travel via Bathgate (presumably nobody bothered to update it when the line to Airdrie opened). However, I still think that if you want people to have full confidence in the site then they shouldn't be expected to do obscure...

Belfast 6.30am travelling on Liverpool Ferry

Just in case anyone gets confused, there are two Stena passenger terminals in Belfast - the Cairnryan one and the Liverpool one. Both are on the same road but the Cairnryan one is further from the city centre. So the bus starts at the Cairnryan terminal where it has a stop right outside the...

    trainscanbecheaper.info

Unfortunately, this site gave incorrect information on the first search that I tried (this query being a good test of any such website): - London (all stations) to Shrewsbury return - Out on a weekday at noon - Returning on another weekday at noon (within a month) The results only show...

Ignorance of Sail Rail to Ireland in booking offices?

For the record - as from the January fares change ScotRail's machines no longer allow fares via Cairnryan to be purchased from ticket machines. All of the stations (which were the main stations in Northern Ireland and Republic of Ireland) have been removed from the destination list on the...

Cheapest way by train between Gatwick Airport and London Zone 1

As we are often seeing here and elsewhere stories about people paying a lot more than they wanted to (i.e. they used the Gatwick Express), I thought it might be useful to give what I think are the cheapest ways of getting between Gatwick Airport and London Zone 1 (without using a railcard)...

Ignorance of Sail Rail to Ireland in booking offices?

This is not true so far as Cairnryan to Belfast is concerned, although it was the case until some years ago (it was Stranraer not Cairnryan then, of course). There is no requirement to have a control ticket, although these are often still issued (and pretty much ignored by Stena checkin staff)...

First MK3 Gen Van went into service on the Enterprise 10.9.12

Aha, that explains it. I don't travel on the service that often.
