    Only if you choose the paper pass option. With the mobile option, you download the pass and 'activate' it whenever you like in the next 11 months.

    I wonder if anyone thought of buying up tickets on 'unreliable' routes with the intention of not using them, but using RTT to check on the date if they are late, then claiming for Northern vouchers via delay repay? Not that I would condone such activities, but would it have been worth it in theory?

    The class 137s were also slower. Having said this, I always used to use them whenever possible, due to the comfort and novelty value (before they were withdrawn). But then I was a leisure traveller, so likely more problematic for Sellafield commuters etc.
