None of what you have said has anything to do with my previous statement about ''BR Dinosaurs'' as you put it in previous posts. My point is merely you bad mouth ''Br Dinosaurs'' and their moaning when it is because of them and their attitude you have the T's and C's that allow you to do the...
And where exactly did these T's and C's come from? Did they just fall out of the air? No they came about because of a strong union, and a union is only as strong as it's members. The T's and C's have stayed that way because of a strong union without which the T's and C's would have been...
I was just being a bit dramatic for effect when saying elites meaning brain surgeons or any super talented job you can think not just someone who has been to further education. Just really to make the point that there is already plenty talent within the railway as we aren't looking for quantum...
hahahaha I love how you think the majority of internals out there aren't from operational roles again as a train driver myself who has been around the industry for a long time and knows many people in other TOCs than my own what you say just isn't reflective of reality! I have never come across...
Always great to start off with a false analogy! Just because you know a train driver that used to be an airline pilot does not make that the norm! Hence why I said ''General fodder'' as these are the most representative groups you will find driving trains across all TOCs that joined...
In my opinion yes they should be these roles before hand and that is the general consensus within the railway from my experience. People that work in the railway know that it is wise to get a job like that to then move into driving after all it makes sense. You are correct that the people they...
It says operational railway experience which in my TOC is known to mean safety critical work therefore Guard, Shunter and Dispatcher. Any TOCs I've come across the vast majority of internals are from these jobs with the bulk being guards. It is seen as a natural progression and similar to the...
Yup precisely. They have more of a tendency to be purely out for the money and screw everyone else. Things like guards and DOO but even when it comes to pay deals signing away rights just for an extra few quid at a 40% tax rate. That is why companies like hiring them though easy to water down...
I'm hardly the one that is bitter nice bit of projection there. The only bitter people on here are the ones crying because XC only want people with a good grounding of railway experience which says everything. There are many good externals but there is a core element of them who like to look...
The stats come from my managers and union reps but I suppose you know better than them just like everyone else in the railway as only externals know anything of course us railway folks are simply clueless.
Fact is stats go to show externals have far more incidents than internals which is all there is to say about the matter. There is no substitute for route knowledge rules knowledge and railway know how built up over many years.
Mod Note: Posts #1 - #66 originally in this thread.
I take my hat off to XC for taking this approach.
I have a university degree and many years highly valuable railway experience as well as outside experience before I got a chance of my driver's key. These Johnny come latelys that turn up...
Yeah I get where you are coming from but I did all the out going enthusiastic personality stuff and had years and years of the most relevant experience to the job and got beat to the job by a very shy quiet guy so just goes to show how it's pot luck often in this game
Well you learn something new everyday!
As you can only apply for the vacancies as they become available I had always thought about the situation of getting a job with one of the lesser TOCS to then see a lner or vtwc come on the market
