[Trivia] How many stations still have wooden platforms?

Woodsmoor does, on the Buxton line.

    Greek Street bridge replacement Stockport

As per an earlier poster, will Buxton retain a service from Hazel Grove or even Davenport. Recognise there may be refueling or maintenance issues, but units could 'escape' at night via Chinley perhaps? Or is there anything up Buxton way that could support them. It's a bit of a dent for a...

Northern Tender for up to 450 units

I'm on a packed two-car 150 running into Manchester now. Each middle seat of the three is empty, and the second of the two next to me is empty. The vestibules are packed, the gangway less so as it's so tight. Everyone's knees are interlocked. 3+2 is a total fugazi. Nobody uses the third...

    Northern Short Forming Again

Appreciate that, but with a game finishing at 1700 and a good 25 minute walk, that's kind of the key period for people arriving and expecting trains home. And on a bigger view, the notion that a two car train at almost any time is good enough for a city the size of Manchester is laughable.

    Northern Short Forming Again

Just been on a two-car 156 from Manchester Piccadilly on a Buxton service, immediately after the match at the Etihad Stadium. Packed full ten minutes before departure, people sat in the floor, passengers arguing, people left on the platform. Northern showing a complete absence of forethought or...

Could we see regular, scheduled services between Manchester and Sheffield calling at Hazel Grove?

This is a strong argument I hadn't considered actually. Hazel Grove and Stockport both offer excellent connections to onward travel, especially once Stockport and eventually Hazel Grove are connected to the Metrolink tram network. I do think there is an argument for an express bus service...

Could we see regular, scheduled services between Manchester and Sheffield calling at Hazel Grove?

Moderator note: Split from https://www.railforums.co.uk/threads/new-mills-central-landslip-6-week-closure.265003/ To echo earlier posts the fast service from MAN to SPT to HAZ is very much welcome, much faster than the Class 150 Buxton stopper, plus a/c AND not an old deafening engine...

    Where has a 195 been?

A couple of years ago I queried on here about 195s disappearing up the Hope Valley line from Hazel Grove late at night. Never seen one head up to the Buxton Line. I presume clearance in the Eaves Tunnel is not a given.

    Bridge to Dartmouth

Having been to Dartmouth Naval College more than once I know the navy do bring frigates in, so absolutely no chance of any bridge as long as they are present.

TfW withdrawals (Now just 150/158s to go)

Saw a 3-car formation of dog boxes today coming out of Manchester Piccadilly on the fast up at full chat. If I hadn't been wedged into my Northern 150 seat I would have fell off my chair.

    'Awkward' towns without railway stations

Caernarfon should still have a station, would carry a lot of holiday traffic.

What else should have been included in 'Network North' ?

This plus platform 15/16 at Piccadilly and rolling electrification programme on all railways.

Rolling stock which is "stored" at a station platform overnight.

Buxton definitely stables at least two units overnight. I should know, I've woken up there on the last train of the day, and had to stay in a hotel! I begged the crew to take me back down the hill but they told me they lived there. One question, is it normal for crew to live at these extreme...

Northern Tender for up to 450 units

Whatever is chosen for whatever practical and political reason, it should attempt level boarding and future proofed traction, not just Aventras with a new skin. It's a chance to change train travel for a huge area of the UK.

Class 230 units training/introduction on the Borderlands line: updates

If they did Merseyrail battery trains it would be a smash. 30 minute headway to start with, trains through the loop so people can get to Liverpool instead of changing at Bidston (which is like being on a mini Piccadilly platform 13/14 in terms of bleakness). Definitely a case of 'build it and...
