    On one occasion (several yeara ago) I asked a member of staff and they retrieved the ticket from the barrier (doesn't work if several passengers have made the same journey).

    One person tapped in and out, paying a fare for one person; presumeably you. If the name they have is the person who tapped in and out then there is nothing they can do as tyhat person has not committed an offence. They do not have the details of the "ticketless" travellers.
