Sorry, I misremembered, it was about 1845 that we arrived at Cambridge, and about 1955 when we got into a taxi.

We arrived at Cambridge shortly before 7 (edit: not 6, I misremembered) trying to get to London. Very soon after that they announced that they'd pay for onward taxis. Thankfully we were almost at the front of the queue - but it still took us an hour to get from the station entrance to a taxi...

If you're allowed to revisit a section of track you could do an infinitely long journey around Birmingham for example. Can't actually find any other examples - I presume there are some?

I hope the existing building can be restored and incorporated into any refurbishment of the station. The flint facing of the building feels quite fitting for the area - lots of old Norfolk buildings are like this. You can even go down an ancient flint mine down the road at Grimes Graves.

Any hints yet on whether timings between Cambridge and Norwich might be reduced with the new FLIRT trains? I gather there was some doubt as to whether they'd be allowed to run at the higher "Sprinter" speed limits currently available between Ely and Norwich - has this question been resolved now?

I wonder how many non-season-ticket holders on peak time commuter services are there for leisure, as opposed to commuting without a season ticket (as previous poster suggests), company business travel or non-leisure personal travel (medical, legal, etc.)?

Is there the prospect of these works speeding up the timetabled journey times, as opposed to just increasing reliability of existing quoted journey times? Of particular interest to me are the services between Ely and Norwich. I have noticed from previous timetables that (even without counting...
