BR Class 180s vs InterCity 125 vs BR Class 220/21/22 vs Class 802/810

It’s the infrastructure (overhead lines) and permanent way quality that limits it I think.

Driving technique: Does it really impact fuel usage?

It can actually impose a lower speed limit rather than just advise.

Near miss with an access ramp at Norwood Junction station (RAIB)

The other option unless someone hasn’t mentioned it is to have the the door locked out by t key so even the driver can’t close it until it’s been manually released. Class 80x work this way.

Near miss with an access ramp at Norwood Junction station (RAIB)

I think that’s a circular argument. If that was the case no one would obey any rules and do what they wanted leading to a dangerous railway and it is far safer than travelling by road so something is being done right.

Near miss with an access ramp at Norwood Junction station (RAIB)

It’s not useless - it’s in the professional driving policy. On the other hand many many deaths have occurred on the roads directly due to inappropriate mobile phone use which is why insurance companies mandate the fitting of driver facing cctv in large vehicles.

Driving a bus and and train driving are completely different.

BR Class 180s vs InterCity 125 vs BR Class 220/21/22 vs Class 802/810

I’m sure I was told Voyagers had some sort of acceleration limiter fitted which might explain their slower performance vs a 180.

EMR Class 222’s - declining reliability

What has happened to the 350s ? Would they have been better for Lumo ? 1781847669 If there are so many engine issues with 222s would it be worth introducing a temporary timetable with a 100 mph speed limit to mitigate engine failures ?

2x 91s could solve the problem of 225s not matching Azumas for acceleration

Both HSTs and class 91s are locomotive + coaches so the way they start and brake takes longer than a unit like an Azuma. I also understand the class 91s have had their initial power reduced to prevent wheel slip when accelerating? Driving from the DVT end is less responsive than from the loco...

    807/805 Speeds

It’s a 125 mph limiter - the system keeps the speed 1 mph below the set speed. On the 110 mph limiter the usual speed is 109 mph.

    LNER 225 Shortening/Overnight Testing

I think it depends on local instructions and company policy.

    LNER 225 Shortening/Overnight Testing

Also is it not true the class 91s were software limited in terms of acceleration so the traction motors didn’t overheat and/or the wheels didn’t slip ? I’m guessing they only develop that 6000 hp above 60 mph.
