This is particularly noticeable on Calder Valley services (including the Halifax - Hull.) There's a habit of allowing inbound services from the Wakefield line to clear Copley Hill junction only to then hold them at Holbeck Junction. Holding them at Copley Hill if Holbeck isn't clear would allow...
Overall this is a good decision, the route does experience a lot of delays. Running a Huddersfield - Halifax - Leeds service will provide 2 trains per hour Leeds - Low Moor whilst retaining the 2 trains per hour between Leeds and Brighouse which has returned temporarily with the Huddersfield...
In fairness, the Yorkshire Flyer hasn't run this week. The last few days have been awful though, and it's disappointing Northern aren't reallocating units from other areas to even out the cancellations.
Weaver network should join up the transport options, so you would think there would be a better relationship between the bus and train operators which could help during times of disruption. I do think though that Northern's problems come from the senior leadership, so agree that unless the MD is...
There was a similar incident last summer, which also occurred on a hot Saturday afternoon and wiped out most Northern services for the remainder of the day.
Northern have the same issues every time there's a major incident, their default response is to issue a do not travel warning as if this absolves them of all responsibility.
Arranging for tickets to be accepted on local buses should be standard (and hopefully will happen once Weaver Network is...
In fairness to Northern, the service did have 4 carriages (as most Sunday services do) so it's likely the fault on the 158 had recently developed. That's not to say Northern don't have a significant issue with short forming though, I recently submitted a FoI request around this and my local line...
It did have the advantage though of reducing shortforms elsewhere, particularly important yesterday when Northern were the only operator running between Leeds and Manchester so probably the best decision overall.
Perhaps another option would be to not hold the stopper back at Doncaster for as long if the preceding Harrogate/Bradford LNER is late. As has already been mentioned, these have very long layovers unlike the Northern service so adding a few extra minutes delay on to these may reduce the number...
I've noticed most of the delays in the Leeds direction are due to a late start off Doncaster due to the LNER running late, but as you mention with a short turnaround at Leeds this is then often transferring the delay on to the southbound journey. The 333s aren't as quick as the 331s either, the...
Had my first ride on one of the new Citaros on the 662 on Friday. Impressed with how quick off the mark they are and find the interiors to be smart. Also like the additional grabrails at head height towards the front which will be useful for standing passengers. However, despite it being an off...
I've contacted Northern recently about this and they have stated it's due to supply issues with parts, although not sure if this solely relates to the 331s Either way, according to Northern's latest performance figures almost 20% of service under the West and North Yorkshire Local service group...
