Interesting Steve, and thank you for your reply. I suppose I was fully expecting people to be able to only comment one way or the other. I was intrigued how each side saw their own position, given what is available on the other side of the fence.

Hypothetical situation... Let's say a TOC Driver versus a grade 7-9 Signaller. Taking all factors into consideration, which career path would you choose and why? What are the pros that outweigh the cons in both grades? What factors swing it for you? Take everything into consideration....job...

Hello all I was wondering if anybody could tell me if Northern Drivers still sign the route to Dumfries on behalf of Scotrail, or if they no longer do this? Also, do drivers from this depot work the Cumbrian Coast line routes, or is this wholly done from Barrow and/or Workington? Thanks

What about after training and once qualified? Finding it difficult to get an exact figure for this, and Northern don't put it on their advert!

Thanks for your reply @GingerRH. A grade 3 plus 24% equates to roughly the same basic as a grade 6, yet this in reality will not equal a grade 6 salary due to lack of Sundays etc I'm guessing...
