Thanks Haywain, much appreciated. Having seen so many of your posts I trust you entirely. But why no open returns via KGX? Looks like LNER are losing punters - or is it to deter people from travelling?
I am hoping the wise owls on this site can help me.
I am planning a trip from Harrogate to West Drayton shortly, either Friday or Saturday. I intend to return a couple of days later with an overnight break in Peterborough. I am getting conflicting advice. Chesterfield station assusre me that an...
Good afternoon
Advice gratefully received please. We, 2 dodderers with Senior Railcards, need to travel from Harrogate to Kemble on 28 September, returning from Oxford on 3 October. What is the least ruinously way of achieving this by train?
TIA
Nick
Interesting ideas there, thanks. Not a silly question about letting them travel by themselves, I had suggested it but got shot down by their parents and my wife! I recall travelling from Chesterfield to Aberystwyth by myself, involving a change of stations in Birmingham (New Street to Snow Hill)...
I hope I can explain this clearly enough.
Grandparents live in Harrogate (HGT) and granddaughters in Peterborough (PBO), granddaughters are aged 9 and 11 and generally travel with parents on a Family Railcard. Nana and Grumpy travel with a Senior Railcard each and we are trying to work out the...
Finally coming back to this for the sake of completeness. I checked with Ringgo who confirmed that, by using their app, the charge for an overnight stay would be £12 = 2 days at £6pd. Went back to the booking office who held firmly to the view that they had to charge £10 for an overnight charge...
I would have been charged £22 for parking from 10:00 Saturday until 14:00 Sunday - 2 x £6 + £10 as apologetically explained by the booking clerk. However, I chose to park on a street 1 mile outside town and use my dodderer’s free bus pass. My car was probably as safe there as in the station yard...
Apologies if this has already been raised - I may have missed it.
Went to Harrogate station to buy car park tickets for Saturday and Sunday while we go to Peterborough; £115 return for 2 with Senior Railcards.
I was expecting to pay £6 per day - I can recall when it was £3pd for rail...
Thanks BlueLeanie. I was too trusting with Trainline - lesson learnt but I shan't be using them again - I should have checked the details of transfer twixt Lyon and Nord. To be clear, it didn't take us 40 mins to get off the platform, but closer to 10.

As a relative newcomer I meant the patronised comment as a reply to Y Ddraig Coch.
I mentioned Virgin in the hope that others would consider not using any part of their empire. I shan't be using them again but will use my ticket office with real helpful people in it.
I did of...
I discarded the itinerary in rage and despair. IIRC it was 40 mins, which would be tight according to other sources.. We were at the back of a crowded train from Avignon and it seemed to take ages to get through the throng and out of the station!
From Trainline's website: 1997 Trainline is set up by the Virgin Group with the mission of helping customers save money on train tickets. At first, we didn’t sell tickets on the web; only over a telephone line.
Pleased to have so many folks who share my views. If all those who are unhappy with...
Mods: Please move this if in wrong forum.
Booked to go from Harrogate to Avignon via Eurostar back in May. Outward journey was easy, the return much less so. Arrived Paris Lyon on time and tried to get to Paris Nord and it rapidly became apparent that the transfer time set out in Trainline's...
