Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

I couldn't have put it better myself! Labour are about as much use as a naturist camp in Antarctica!

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

Arthur Scargill was the one who wrecked the coal industry not Margaret Thatcher. Some collieries had to be closed because the amount of money the coal sold for was far less than the cost involved in bringing it to the surface. Imported coal is cheaper. I know it's a bitter pill to swallow...

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

£13:55 expensive? I don't think so! That's what it costs from Chesterfield to Manchester with a railcard. [It's £20:50 without] And, East Midlands Trains do run an hourly direct service (via Sheffield) which takes about an hour and a quarter. So I think you ought to get your facts straight!

National free travel? Good grief! What more do you want? And I'm not jealous. I'm just fed up of having to subsidise this kind of thing. Don't forget, someone ultimately has to pay! Why can't you contribute something? While I don't expect you to pay full fare, I do think you should pay half...

Suggestions for new stations/services for Yorkshire area.

I agree with this. Bradford Forster Square to Skipton and Ilkley should be hourly on a Sunday. The two hourly service to/from Ilkley is poor considering it's half hourly during the week and on a Saturday. The Skipton service is less inconvenient because one can simply change at Shipley. Having...

Suggestions for new stations/services for Yorkshire area.

Elland is already on the cards and should open in the next year or so, as should Kirstall and Apperley Bridge. I was suggesting stations that I'm sure would be winners despite not being talked about for years. --- old post above --- --- new post below --- That £15 billion or so we're...

idiot driver gets light penalty for disobeying crossing lights

We need rising bollards to stop this stupidity once and for all. Take the barriers away and install rising bollards similar to those which protect bus lanes, but these would of course need to be far stronger. Something that would stop an HGV is what's needed, and once the red lights start to...

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

A tube driver's salary is excessive and to go on strike for more is down right greedy. :-( What London Underground need to do is take-on staff who are prepared to work for less. £20,000-£25,000 per year is still a very healthy income. Those who threaten strike action should be told (very firmly)...

Suggestions for new stations/services for Yorkshire area.

What do we think of my suggestions for new stations/services? A new station at Thornhill on the Huddersfield - Wakefield line bearing the name "Thornhill (Dewsbury South)". The up line could be shifted south a few yards and an island platform built close to Slaithwaite Road bridge. A new...

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

Quite right. Why can't pensioners be grateful for what they get? They're always banging on about something. If it's not free travel it'll be something else. Start loosening that tight strap around the old purse.

    Todmorden Curve

When I was 16 I remember being diverted via the Calder Valley between Leeds and Manchester Victoria. The reason for this was the replacement of a bridge over the Huddersfield narrow canal. This bridge was, and still is, painted red, but has lost much of its shine over the years. The highlight...

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

ENCTS was brought in as an election sop by Gordon Brown. It needs to be discarded because it is unaffordable and badly thought out. I agree with this 100%. If it wasn't for the idiocy of the last Labour government starting concessionary travel we wouldn't have all these problems now...

Bad news for Pensioners, Commuters etc in South Yorkshire

In my view SYPTE are well within their rights to withdraw free train travel for OAPs and the disabled. Do they not know there is something called a railcard which can be purchased to make train travel cheaper? The protests which they have staged at Barnsley give the impression they're a bunch...

    Todmorden Curve

Has anyone else noticed what I have today? The title of this thread "The Todmorden Curve" has been added to the MetroTrain map.

    Todmorden Curve

I can understand the difficulties faced by disabled people when using the rail network. However, as far as I see it, it comes down to £££! i.e. if it costs 'X' amount of money to upgrade stations and when you have you only get back 10-20% of 'X' from the disabled; what's the point? It's simply...
