I love oxtail - such a fantastic rich stew - and tongue and heart are super tender meats. Liver can be a bit hit and miss - cooked just right with bacon and onions so good - but it's so easy to overcook and the texture becomes unpleasant. I've never much fancied tripe.
I agree with the loss of personal liberty, but the problem with taking it too far is that you end up with people who cannot function in society at the end of long sentences. It's not unknown for some of them to deliberately commit crimes in order to get sent back inside.
To be honest, I don't think anyone does. Normally there wouldn't be any reason in heaven or on earth for the CIA director to be in Moscow "for talks". Talks with who, about what?
And this is the source of many of the problems - changes in production methods and industry mean that there aren't a lot of jobs and the jobs that do exist require skills that we don't train people for. Several posters have mentioned that custodial sentences only deter people who feel they have...
American "three strikes" laws are another example. If I'm facing life in prison for bouncing a $5 cheque, or for killing someone then I might as well make it "worth it".
