    A career as a signaller

Is there anyone here starting Signalling school in York this Monday (8/5/2017)? I've just spent a couple of days observing in the box for a few hours to get an idea of what it's like, so far it seems really interesting and looks like a great career.

    A career as a signaller

For what it's worth I had my interview at the beginning of January and my start date isn't until May 1st, the whole process takes a long time so just bare through it and know that these long waits are the norm.

Excellent, just a bit worried I'll only get a few days notice but if it's 1-2 weeks that's perfect.

How much notice do they generally give after references to a start date?

I got a grade 3 offer and I answered no to all of those questions.

    Medical history query

I had my medical yesterday and they will ask if you've ever experienced any psychological problems before (possibly just in the past 2 years, I can't remember). I think it's probably more to do with the drug test, if anti-depressants showed positive and you hadn't declared it then you would...

Delighted, the job benefits are great and I can't wait to start. A bonus is I don't even have to move as the box is only 10 miles away.

I was wrong, got the good news today providing the disclosure/medical goes okay, which I couldn't foresee being a problem.

The interview was pretty much what you would expect. A question relating to each of the non-technical skills without going into details of what the specifics of the job itself, which would instead be learned at the signalling school.

    A career as a signaller

I just got my PhD myself and had an interview last Thursday as a Signaller. One of the people that interviewed me was from a Chemistry background herself, so I don't think they have any issues with us researchers. Unfortunately in my case I think the lack of a driving licence has put me out...

Newtonhill, up near Aberdeen. Will only be the fourth interview I've ever had, so I'm hoping I don't mess up!

Excellent, I can rehearse some examples for the non-technical skills and make sure I have a few facts on hand. I suspect it may be some time between an interview and hopefully attending signalling school!

    A career as a signaller

Hi there, first post so please be gentle! I recently applied for a position as a signaller at the Newtonhill box (grade 3) near Aberdeen, completed the SJT and have been called for interview next week. What can I expect from this interview lasting approximately 45 minutes? Is this just the...
