Does anyone know if I can buy an open return on the 300 to the airport and use it on the N100 on the way back a week later? I tried looking on the Lothian website, but the conditions are very vague.
Even when they are clean, it is very easy to see the border between the glossy blue paint and the matte blue of the vinyl on the powercars. It could have looked amazing if the 7 cities design was stencilled on the powercars rather than using a vinyl sticker.
The 2015 study was only for an expanded and upgraded station, not a "Transport Hub" like what is being proposed now. An integrated bus station would have been out of the scope of the study, unlike now. It would now be very easily achievable to have both a station car park and a integrated bus...
According to an update to the Transport Hub project on the HITRANS website, Network Rail has now completed their land acquisitions and now owns most of the land immediately surrounding the station, including:
Royal Mail sorting office and Car Park
TX Maxx/Sports Direct
TK Maxx Car Park...
It seems that work has finally started at the station:

Looks like the roof is the first job on the list.
Seems like the delay really could be something to do with the scope of the plan being increased! If Network Rail is infact acquiring both the TKMaxx and Royal Mail sites, they could be on to something quite ambitious, as that is a rather huge amount of land for the city centre.
I was in coach L, and I have to say it is the quietest underfloor engined unit I've ever been on. The contrast between the noise on the 158 I was on earlier and the 800 was staggering.
Hopefully, what's happened here is the same case as what happened for the Dalcross Airport station as that was delayed by a few years because they had increased the scope of the plans.
My bad, colour me surprised haha
The fact that they have named it "Avanti West Coast" makes me think that the new First open access operation on the east coast may well be named "Avanti East Coast"
