Is that actually a structural girder, or just a cable tray hanging from the masonry viaduct that's come loose? That would fit the relatively quick estimated fix times, and the prop picture as I doubt you'd run under any part of a bridge after a 2ft movement of something structural.

Don't think I'd pay double, took an Excelsior last May from Milan > Catania but it was only about £10 more for ticket than the Interrail supplement for standard sleepers. Shower is underwhelming, but it worked OK. Room itself may be marginally bigger but the shower/toilet door rotates so does...

Travelled on this beginning of May and it did indeed have Excelsior cabins and go via Bologna.

There's a treadle there (the bar fouling the flange gap), so maybe cover for part of the mechanism - presumably there is a spring somewhere in the system, so could be covering that?

My reading of the FAQ was that at least for the mobile pass you only add your ID document when you activate it on the first day of travel. It's not asked me for it yet, but for the same reasoning as trei2k I'll be adding the pass number to the app later.
