If getting a bus from St Pancras you would e better off getting a 59 or 476 as both of these go into Euston bus station whereas the 205 stops on Euston Road.
There are 2 shunters at Dirft - 08445 and 08823. Both are yellow, blue and green with the 1st one having a yellow roof and the 2nd one has a blue roof.

I would have thought that the only reason you could go via Reading would be to change trains so that you have increased and/or improved (faster) journey options so do not see why you should be able to break your journey at Reading.
According to Shunterspot there are 2 shunters at Old Oak - 08663 and 08836.
08483 is shown as being at RVEL Derby and 08644 is shown as being at Laira.
