I know they are following rules but it is so annoying (to me anyway). I hate that cab to cab - I just feel like saying 'I'm not bloody going to leave you behind just move!'
I have learnt something from you there dk1 - I thought it was 3 seconds like at a whistle board. Glad to be corrected, you have made my day, the less I sound that bloody horn the better!
Although travelling around the country (well the south anyway!) it appears no other TOCs adhere to it. It just seems to be GA where they have a bee in their bonnet about a full 3 seconds.
Couldn't agree more. Love your description as sounding like a strangled seagull! How can such a nice train have such an awful horn? And no matter how long I sound it I always get a comment from the managers saying that from the download I'm not sounding it for the full 3 seconds.

I can vouch for all this. They can sound absolutely dreadful when all the WSP and scrubbers are working hard which can disconcert the passengers (and sometimes the driver!) but they do the business well.
Another bonus on the Stadlers if sliding is the ability to stick in the emergency brake and...
Harsh but very true. I do wonder about the passengers though (even if I don't mention it!) If a rural is cancelled I think how many will sit at the station for another hour, quietly seething, waiting for the next train and how many are able to make alternative arrangements.
Guards who lower every single sunblind in the cab so every window is fully obscured. When we change ends the cab is in darkness. It obviously doesn't take long to raise them all again but it winds me up. It may make their Netflix viewing easier but are they expecting me to drive the train like...
