Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

I did the overnight Eurostar once and it was a very quiet affair with everyone trying to sleep as much as possible in the seats. Unlike the old couchette train from Gare du Nord to Bourg St Maurice which was a non-stop party, that would have required some serious cleaning!

    Heat Related Disruption - 13 Aug 2026

It was over 37C at several weather stations in the south east at 2pm, and temps usually top out between 3-4pm so still time for it to hit 38. I am guessing you are in Bletchley so probably slightly cooler (relatively speaking). Services down here seem to be coping fine so far.

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

This is the bit I don't understand - the weather forecast is only accurate a few days in advance. So are staff applying for (and being given authorisation to take) holidays at weekends at a handful of days' notice or are they just refusing to do overtime?

Avanti cancellations - is it always this bad?

When they say they are "working hard to make sure we can minimise these cancellations", what exactly do they mean? 1786224166 But surely drivers can't just take holidays whenever they want, it has to be approved so that staffing levels are maintained? That's how it works in any normal industry.

Lumo running train with no toilets

Yes, if it is a 4+ hour long distance service. I've never heard of a flight over such a time period taking place without a working toilet.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

This all strikes me as pathetic posturing from the RMT. I fear this sort of behaviour will only become more prevalent as the industry moves back to a fully nationalised position.

Delayed due to failure of Tesco daventry - coatbridge DRS service (17/12)

From personal experience (fortnightly trips to Glasgow for the last 2 years) I estimate 20 days per year is a significant underestimate! I average a delay/repay claim on around a third of my journeys and most of those are 1+ hours

Avanti putting 9 car Pendolinos on Anglo-Scottish services

As a regular traveller between London and Glasgow, I would say that the only time that an 11-car is full north of Preston is when there is service disruption or the previous service has been cancelled. Which to be honest is pretty much a daily occurrence....

Clapham Junction to Lancing, back from Amberley

Thanks all - the DaySave is perfect, strange that it is so difficult to find this ticket.

Clapham Junction to Lancing, back from Amberley

Hi - I am walking in the South Downs on Saturday, the walk starts at Lancing station and finishes at Amberley station. Travelling to/from Clapham Junction, what is the cheapest ticket for 1 adult (no railcard). I am guessing a day return to somewhere on the line between Hove and Littlehampton...

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

You're probably right. Mine is O2. I always connect to the WiFi on that stretch now as it is so much better than the mobile network

Class 701 'Aventra' trains for South Western Railway: progress updates

You've clearly never travelled on SWR suburban between Wimbledon and Clapham Junction, the mobile signal is atrocious for most of the journey!

Heatwave 22-27 June - effect on the UK Railway

I travelled Munich-Innsbruck last Sat and back yesterday, it was in the 30s both days and things were definitely not working as expected although whether that was heat-related or just the shambles that is DB at the moment I don't know. The OBB railjet yesterday was very warm to say the least

Report of collision Bedford (Elstow) - 19/06/26

It looks from RTT like it was 18L when it passed Bedford. And then stopped shortly after. The EMR Connect is showing as on time leaving Bedford

Reopening Farringdon - Moorgate for EMR connect

In pure speculation land - terminate the Sutton loop at Blackfriars and use the 707s on those? Then use the freed up 700s for the EMR connect through the core.
