I understand the complexity around the Neville Hill work, but it feels like a real shame that we can’t get full Leeds - York electrification for another 4 years, when there seems to be tons of emu‘s sitting around and Northern continue to have stock shortages and keep putting 2 carriage trains...
I hadn’t realised until the train journey back from York that the wiring seems to be up form Church Fenton to Micklefield, and plenty of structures up to East Garforth that look ready for having wires installed.
Some new structures have appeared at Garforth since last time I was here - the massive structure plonked in the middle of the platforms seems a bit unfortunately placed though
I know there's probably still much work to do, but I really can't get my head round how it will be another 4 years before the Leeds to Church Fenton bit is ready, given the recent progress and there are seemingly masts etc up over much of the route already. 4 years!
Took the dogs for a walk today to look at the new footbridge that's replaced the foot crossing near Garforth. Also, the mad crossing a bit further down with the steps up the embankment is now closed and the crossing removed. New footbridge is good, if not a bit oversized! Seems that the may...
The station and its car park is planned there and in the foreground - I noticed on the way into Leeds the other day that all the OHLE piling was aside the existing 2 tracking, so they've definitely not created any provision for expansion. Whether piling for OHLE is particularly difficult or not...
Away from Huddersfield, I noticed that the cast iron bridge between Cross Gates and Garforth has started to be dismantled. Also, the new enormous footbridge that will replace a foot crossing has taken shape too - looks like it could add 1/4 mile onto a walk!
Well, it seems we're getting a second one, so definitely need to consider some additional accommodation! Joking aside, we once went to Paignton from Leeds on an HST when I was a kid, our Dane then slept under the table all the way - more than one passenger was surprised when she emerged with a...
Lol, we all wondered whether it'd been left to fix a random future fault, but she behaved impeccably. Had no issues with 6 carriages on one engine, was tempted to ask if we could turn the second one on for one run, but suspected I already knew the answer :D
Went down to look last evening, seems like they are keeping the bottom part of the old structure to build the new one on. All lines up and running this morning.
They were certainly getting on with it this lunchtime, though the old bridge seemed to be putting up a decent fight! Might pop back down tomorrow afternoon to see how they're getting on
