I was on a Tyne and wear metro once when it was taken out of service because a door wouldn't close. We were all told to get off the train then the door were closed manually and the train driven to the depot.

I've often wondered how locos with 3 bogies (such as some of the Japanese electrics) negotiate curves.. I'd imagine the centre one is allowed some degree of lateral movement.

I suspect Peterborough is used quite heavily for this purpose. The station has a huge car park which (in pre-covid times anyways) was always full.
