That's up there with the Daily Mail reporting on the Grayrigg accident that 'The driver battled to keep his train on the rails'. And let's not forget the Guardian: "Grayrigg 'hero' driver tells of making mobile calls with broken neck". I would have used a phone for this purpose.

If, as appears, both the driver and guard died in the accident (RIP), that might explain the seeming long delay in alerting the emergency services.

According to The Scotsman:- I think it's fair to ask why, if Mr. Cortes thinks it is too early to speculate as to the cause of the accident, he is doing just that. His comments are premature and unhelpful at this stage.
