Passenger train consists as Open Data

I'm not sure exactly where the data is derived from, however I know the Southern 377/1s and 377/4s are in the same pool for diagramming so it may be that's what it's indicating rather than necessarily the unit's actual subclass? There are also other exceptions where the fourth digit doesn't...

PSTN/2g switch off effect on the railways?

Yes - it's the drop in bandwidth that's the issue.

PSTN/2g switch off effect on the railways?

There are various workstreams underway that are planning for it and have been for the last year or two - there are still some items of on-train kit that still use 2G, some of which don't yet have solutions. It's actually the removal of 3G that's caused the most pain so far.

    British Rail Carriage Stickers

The green/yellow one at the bottom left with the warning triangle is from a SouthCentral slamdoor train so would be from around 2001-2005

    L&SE green livery???

I've seen this posted on Twitter previously - it shows brown, green and blue versions of the L&SE livery. How legitimate it is, I don't know though. https://x.com/tms1967/status/991742863456301056

Southern timetable changes consultation Coastway West

My memory is that there was a clash with paths for additional/retimed(?) XC services.

Gatwick express 387 with GN branding

All bar 387201 have been back with Gatwick Express for some time now, probably close to six months.

Class 365 scrap movements + preservation discussion

My understanding is that it was related to how the fleet was originally financed by BR - the odd numbers were financed differently to the even numbers.

    Wi-fi on trains

They usually use more than one mobile network for this reason. GSM-R is 2G technology so wouldn't have anywhere near the bandwidth.

    British Rail Divisions

Southern's HR and training were still based in Southern House until about 2006-ish.

    Selhurst Plat 2/3

The first ones on the mainline were at Purley Oaks and (I think) Purley, a little over 10 years ago. Selhurst to Streatham Common were done a few years later. I worked on stations around that time and they made a huge difference.

Why is GTR based in Newcastle?

That's Go North-East's offices. The Go-Ahead Group HQ is on Grey Street, Newcastle.

    Southern class 313 routes?

Brighton to Portsmouth Harbour (including Bognor and Littlehampton) and Brighton to Seaford.

    Energy costs of a journey

In the rules for EC4T charges for units without meters there are factors for this. Can't remember them off the top of my head but it's something like 1.8 times a single unit for two units in multiple.

    Reliable internet for trains

Most installs will use more than one 4G SIM (4 is typical) across more than one network to try and get round areas of poor reception.
