Just an update on this, I replied with my side of the story and today received a Fixed Penalty Notice for £80.00 plus the cost of a ticket. If I understand this correctly, if I pay this amount within 14 days, the matter is dropped and it will not proceed to court? Just want to confirm!
What is the likelihood that this will go to court?
I haven't received any corrispondance yet but if asked I'm planning on just giving my side of the story and offer to pay for the 3 days and any other costs they feel are appropriate

I guess I'm just concerned about a criminal record, I admit my mistake and I'm more than willing to pay whatever fine is needed. How likely is it that this will go straight to court?

My monthly season ticket ran out on 21st July, I didn't realise and subsequently used it for the remainder of the week between Bolton and Darwen (replacement buses) it was checked by ticket inspectors at Bolton for 3 days, none...
