Are there any updates on when this line might open? December 2025 had been the suggested date for some time, but you still can’t book a ticket on this route yet.
I do wonder if it would be possible to open the Cowley branch without the need for huge investment?
Essentially adding some basic platforms as stations and keeping the line single track for the time being.
This is what happened when the Bicester to Oxford line was was reopened in 1987.
Great video. Thanks for sharing.
Does anyone know if there is a set date for the first passenger service on this line? Or are we still a little way off that yet?
It does seem an unnecessary overkill. The public stand on fence free platforms all over the country on far more active railways.
I suppose it would require an announcement system informing people using the railway centre to stand clear. The approaching train will not stop.
Great video. Thanks for posting.
Has this section always been single track? It certainly looks that way from the existing bridges and tunnels. It just seems surprising as this line once reached Princes Risborough.
Thanks @Benjwri. Some very interesting photos on that link.

There was a footpath from Charndon to Steeple Claydon, just north of where East West Rail crosses HS2, as shown on the ordinance survey map below. I’m sure this path will have to be reinstated, presumably with a footbridge...
I don’t think there had been any trace of the old great central railway bridge even before the HS2/East West Rail works started.
I would love to see a photo of the original bridge if anyone has a copy of it.
