Ordering food to be delivered to trains.

While on the GBRF21 tour (yes, ‘that one’), my mate spearheaded a mass pizza delivery to the train, timed to happen during the changeover from 86101 to 92032 at Crewe. During the day he gathered the orders and then phoned the takeaway in question. The guy thought he was just taking the mickey...

Lewes derailment - Thursday 13th August

As shocking as the pictures are to look at, one minor positive (if anything), is that the carriages appear to have held up pretty well throughout the incident.

Retro Railtour to Stratford-Upon-Avon - Saturday 22nd August

    37407+37423 apparently rumoured.

Delayed due to failure of Tesco daventry - coatbridge DRS service (17/12)

I’ve been on a steam tour that’s had a diesel on the back and we certainly didn’t stay below 40! The 40/25 speed restrictions only apply when assisting failures or during out of course instances, not when everything is working normally; in the case of diesel locos on the back of steam trains...

Delayed due to failure of Tesco daventry - coatbridge DRS service (17/12)

Assisting from the rear certainly wouldn’t be done that way these days! 40mph max for rear end assistance to a passenger train, and 25mph max for a freight. However freight depends on the wagon brake settings - if the wagons are in “passenger” settings then they can be rear assisted at a maximum...

Retro Railtour to Stratford-Upon-Avon - Saturday 22nd August

Makes me wonder if the owners are doing this to make ends meet or if it’s just plain greed…….also wonder if another operator of 37s, such as WCRC, would be willing to step in for the original hire price quoted…..

Delayed due to failure of Tesco daventry - coatbridge DRS service (17/12)

4M48 (my train from Basford Hall to Daventry tonight!) had two 88s on apparently - wonder if they took one of those off to utilise as the rescue loco for 4M82?

    Non-Urgent TOPS Requests

Looks like it may possibly have been 5F32 1929 Portsmouth and Southsea to Bristol Temple Meads which ran as a VST. Real Time Trains shows “No report” after Fareham and doesn’t reappear till Romsey, so maybe the fact it came through Eastleigh suggests it was diverted this way?

    Cows on the line?

I’d herd of this occurring earlier today. Apparently the cows were off to Uddersfield after there was some alleged beef between them and the farmer; the farmer had allegedly told them to burger off. Once they’d been safely mooved on, trains were able to start running again, although I believe...

    Worst/best preservation liveries?

What about when 50044 was numbered D444 and painted in BR green, and 50035 numbered 50135 and decked out in LoadHaul colours?!

    Varamis Rail Class 321s & 325s”

That’s 428+429. Should be seeing them myself in about 45 minutes or so as I’m on my way to Carlisle to work 4M48 south!!!

Retro Railtour to Stratford-Upon-Avon - Saturday 22nd August

I’ve heard since that the locos are still available for spot-hire, so the tour MIGHT still use EPR 37s possibly?

Retro Railtour to Stratford-Upon-Avon - Saturday 22nd August

Just heard that apparently EPR have ceased trading as of yesterday (K&WVR have published a post saying 37407 won’t attend the upcoming diesel gala as a result but 37218 will still go). If this is indeed the case, then what will haul the Retro tour?
