I can’t recall after this time why the ticket did not happen. However the last time I did the trip it was walking both ways which benefits the pub at BeckHole halfway along the route.
I suspect that these attitudes of disinterest are widespread throughout society. The number of times I have been served by people who are surly or just grunt when spoKen to is too many to count.
The difference is that I can choose not to give that store, cafe or whatever my custom in future...
When a trainload of Tank ammo arrived at Pembroke in 1965; en route to Castlemartin, us happy troops were told it had to be unloaded within 24 hours so that HM goverment wasn’t charged for the storage.
We achieved this with an incentive of a day off but I suspect the poor folk who used the roads...
Surely the big difference for the enthusiast was the variety and number of locos to see. On my first trip to Bletchley in the late 1950s I saw over 100 locos of many different classes working all sorts of trains from Top rank expresses to humble two coach local trains.
Today at the risk of...
I did a lot of rail travel to and from various Army postings in the 1960s and like the curates egg found BR good in parts.
Fond memories of the Andover to Waterloo service on a Friday evening at about 5pm with the cafe open and serving beer as far as Surbiton or there about.
Not so nice to...
I must declare an interest as I have a relative who works for X Country.
This discussion just goes round and round. The fact is they want more stock and the agreements to be able to work them.
They are being held back by the DFT and behind them the Treasury and it seems will be held in this...
That’s good if a bit expensive for a 3mile trip up the hill, or at least it is for this old pensioner.
I am sure the last time we asked at Grosmont a couple of years ago we were knocked back but hopefully that is sorted.
I frequently used the NYMR for many years after walking the Rail Trail from Goathland to Grosmont. The return is uphill so the train was the favourite but now there are no tickets available for that journey.
Likewise a ride to the halt and walk back to Levisham is no longer available as a single...
Nobody answers the questions as to why some routes get the new stock every time, or at least the better stock, whilst others always end up with the leftovers.
I would willingly swop the 150s for anything else going. The 170s on the Harrogate would do nicely but it’s not going to happen.
It is...
It seems from of the comments on here that us poor folk out in the sticks should be thankful for the handouts we get and should know our place, like a Victorian soap opera.
Who decides where stock is used? Why does the Leeds to York stopper get a 195 every time I’ve ridden it or seen it but the...
The Pacers were replaced but we didn’t get the new stock, that went elsewhere and we got leftovers again. I’m sorry to be negative but I’ll believe it when I see it, the local service here has a long history of old appalling train. Does anyone else remember the 141s?
