    ------------------

I choose to commute. I work on freight in Doncaster but live A 55 minute motorway drive away in the beautiful countryside. In "rush hour" traffic expect to add 20 minutes to that drive. Then if there's an accident on the motorway, add another 20 minutes as you divert around it. Always check your...

Reasons for wanting to drive a train

I drive a 14 year old banger that stinks REALLY BAD on a hot day. Cost me less than 3 months lease of a Fiat 500

    Pass Out rate.

I was in a class of 12 of whom 3 had previous railway experience. We were all successful in passing out and have all been driving mainline over a year. To put it in perspective, on my first day I called ballast "rubble". I now have a good route card, a fantastic employer and no regrets...

Freightliner trainee driver positions ('Graduate scheme')

I don't have a degree but was taken on to the graduate course in November. Due to pass out in approximately 2 months! It's their title for a trainee driver. Best of luck to all who apply, it's well worth it :-)

    Rules and regs training

I missed a day of my rules training to attend a very unexpected funeral. The guys at Crewe were fantastic about it all, gave me the days course material I would miss and offered extra help on my return to make sure I had got it all. Fortunately you've been put on the next course, but if you make...

    Astigmatism

I have astigmatism in both eyes. I'm corrected by +1.75 in both eyes and I had absolutely no problems passing the medical. I took my current optical prescription along just in case and all they did was copy the details over.

The RPS offered by FLHH makes my Civil Servants pension look like a jar full of sweets, and it's on offer to all new starters. Make the most of it.

    Pilot to Trainee Train Driver

The best thing to do is locate all the F/TOC's that operate within an hour of where you live (unless youre prepared to move most companies want you within an hours commute), then work out which ones have driver / guard depots. A good hour of Google-ing can provide you with everything you need...

Day in the Life of a Depot Driver?

Beveridges put a fantastic description of the duties of a DD here: http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=80352&highlight=Depot+driver&page=2 If that doesn't answer your question then I dunno what will! LB
