Has anything supernatural ever happened to you?

Once when my uncle was putting the car away in the block of garages at the back of our houses I looked up and saw a triangular shaped craft covered in multi-coloured lights, quite low but utterly silent. I've no explanation for it.

    Arriva Buses (including Greenline)

I figured they would be on “city based” routes depending on the range. Does anybody know what the range is?

    On The Buses

Wasn’t that be if the films? I think the first one where there’s an Irish canteen girl and Stan gets her home and they’re at it on the sofa and Olive comes down and is pregnant which puts the girl off and she makes her excuses. It’s quite interesting watching it through the prism of 2022 when it...

    On The Buses

Things like Terry and June, Sykes, Bless This House, etc. were incredibly popular though, and even Rising Damp, Fawlty, et al look very dated now. The reason Dad’s Army gets a pass is it was set in the past even then so it’s deliberately dated and it’s not quite as jarring I guess.

    On The Buses

A rather sniffy entry from cinema biogs as usual; while hardly artistic they were popular enough and many actors don’t get anything like that in their career. They are horribly dated now of course but then they are 50 years old and pretty much all television that old is very dated.

Locomotive names which may be unacceptable these days

May be veering off topic a bit here but are any of the names (especially LNER locos?) using the Eric Gill typeface? Perhaps a different level of unacceptable?

Trivia : places which have bus stations, but have stops which use dont use the bus station

I've never understood why, especially the Narborough Road buses actually pick up in a street linking the two bus stations together.

    Attitudes to ticketless travel

I'm sure this has probably been mentioned before but what was the comparative level of fare dodging under nationalisation and attitudes towards it at the time? I often find that things were just as bad in the past but now they are given more of a platform or spotlight. I remember getting a...

Moments when preserved railways, with a little bit of imagination, possibly capture the real thing…

Thanks! I like your picture too. I think the main issue with modern photographs is the sharpness of focus, most train pictures in the 50s or 60s would likely have been taken with a fixed or zone focus lens which would have been pretty cheap and not that sharp. The film as well was probably ISO...
