    Ahh...the £7 figure was because I'd accidentally inputted Victoria Underground Station rather than the National Rail station into the fare finder. The off-peak fare would actually be £5.50. Edit: you beat me to it - I'd only just realised!

    That makes sense - thanks! The £7 figure is what the TfL fare finder says is the off-peak railcard fare for a journey from Victoria to Gatwick (not taking into account a travelcard which covers part of the journey).
