No it is most certainly not a Calder Valley upgrade. Go back to the latest NPR announcement and Leeds-Bradford-Manc was described as a new line and not an upgrade to an existing line.
Thanks, I'm unable to check at the moment. While the morning service has changed back to continuing to run to London, I assume the evening is a spare from Crofton?
Is this true now? Before May, when the service was morning only, the train certainly continued in GC service to London later in the day.
In May, it changed so that the unit returned to Crofton after both morning and evening services. I had assumed that the unit was a spare from the London...
There are now four fast trains timetabled to run Manchester to Leeds every 15mins - that's the problem. This was not the case before May when unevenly spaced services allowed stopper services time to operate inbetween. IIRC the old Huddersfield to Leeds stopper took 40mins and could not now fit...
Yes Rochdale now has 6tph while Halifax has 4tph, with each probably seeing a new Liverpool service next year.
The funding for the Rochdale new platform came from the Northern Hub project in order to reduce terminators from the west at Victoria. The Calder Valley Journey Time Improvement project...
Given the latest estimates of £2bn for the electrification (not upgrade) of 50 miles of TPE North, say about 25miles per year.
Or if there are 4 teams, 6 miles each per year.
The DfT ordered no such thing. The Northern ITT speciified two requirements - a Chat Moss to Airport service and a Manchester to Airport to Crewe service. Arriva in theiir bid satisfied these requirrments by offering a single Chat Moss to Crewe service, conveniently as JCollins points out...
With the 3rd fast service (hopefully) starting at around the same time as these changes, it will be interesting to see if DfT maintain competition on the Sheffield-Manchester route by giving Northern a service. Possibly the Hull to Sheffield Northern Connect extended to Manchester?
Isn't the Chat Moss-Wigan-Blackpool service to replaced by the Cumbria services - your list includes both?
I certainly wouldn't be in the business of delaying the long promised Calder Valley link to Piccadilly which formed part of the Hub business case at the expense of all those...
Have you considered the Consumer Contracts Act 2015 in this reply, which now applies to the railways in full?
It allows for anything said or written by the trader or by the trader's agent about the service, if it is taken into account by the consumer upon entering the contract, to be treated as...
The enhancements delivery plan states that the work will allow parallel departures from the station. As MarkyT's post shows a limited range of parallel arrivals were enabled by the last upgrade 10years back. If anyone can work out the new layout, it would be interesting to find out which...
I dont read Jayah's posts and am not really interested in points of your argument with him that I subsequently miss. However you wrote "why would it matter if the government makes money or not". In the case of public investment, which electrification is, the government wont invest if it doesn't...
