It is Network Rail that impose the speed restrictions, NOT the TOC's.

Network Rail insist on service reductions once the expected wind speed reaches 50mph, so GTR have to plan accordingly.

Having been in the operations side of the industry for more years than I can remember, my attitude towards my staff depends on how I view the severity of the incident. They either get a b*llocking and told not to do it again, and hope they learn by their error, or they get disciplined. However...

Portslade has a train every hour during the daytime, Monday to Saturday, to and from London, and half hourly in the evenings!

The pay scales for all MG grades can be very wide! Anything between £20k and £35k is possible. Newer staff tend to be on a lower figure than many of the existing former Southern staff. However, unlike those on GTR contracts, the former Southern staff are disadvantaged with regard to enhancements...
