Personally I would go with Virgin because you have a definite job. From word of mouth from current drivers it's relatively easy to move TOCs if you want to but it's hard to get offered a Trainee driver position.
I recently discovered that the ASLEF website have the pay and conditions for...
MEN are you talking about the MMI or driver manager interview?
The MMI is like a test and there are certain criteria to hit and you have 2 chances to pass it - like all the other tests during the recuritment process.
With the driver manager interview it can be more subjective - I feel what...
I still haven't heard either way but I am outside of the 25 miles. I'm at the medical stage with another TOC so I'd have to back out if was made an offer, I just find it odd I wasn't outright rejected. :-?
They seem to be moving the process along quickly, you find out your test results on the day and I was called today (the day after) about a date for my driver manager interview. Which is Thursday 21st!
Good luck.
I replied to your message on my visitor messages XD
It did thank you Paul.
Here's what I remember of the timeline:
Assessment day - Stage 1 & 2 tests then if you pass:
Driver Manager Interview, then if you pass:
MMI interview, then if you pass:
Medical, then if you pass:
On to training!
They get you to do stage 1 (the paper tests)...
* Do TMs get any commission on sales made on board the train?
I don't know. There used to be a commission system in place but I don't think there is any longer. TM's are also expected to penalty fare if necessary so I'm not sure they'd want to encourage selling of tickets on the train.
* Are...
* I understand, with some TOCs, you get incentives for working on RDs, Sundays, Public holidays, with time and half pay, double etc. Is it the same case with Chiltern too? If so, what is the incentive?
Yes we do. I think the incentive changes depending on the day. I get time and a half on...
* Can employees swap shifts among themselves, provided we don't contravene the 12 hr rule or does one have to follow the roster as it is?
Yes, we're a pretty easy going company. How easy it is and how willing your fellow TMs will be to swap, I don't know. All I know is we get amendments to...
I'm not a TM but I work in Chiltern Railways' control centre.
* What's the current roster like? Is it a sort of 5 on, 2 off or does it vary? I understand that I will be doing an average of 35 hrs week, but does one get rest days consecutively i.e. work 4 days, get 2 off, or is it more like...

Hello, first of all congratulations. It's honestly a great achievement to have been given a TM job offer! I know so many people who I feel would make TMs who didn't make the cut.
I'll send you a PM.
Whilst checking for trainee train driver roles at Crossrail I spotted this.

Comutor and KT, well in my TOC we've had 29 trainee train drivers in the last couple of years and only 1 was an industry outsider. I agree it depends on the TOC and times are changing but if Mike is struggling then it doesn't hurt to try something that may help his applications.
I don't think...
