Proposed new Channel Tunnel services discussion

It has been a few years since I travelled back from Rotterdam and had to go through passport control there, but the waiting room was very full.

Sadiq Khan says future of Heathrow Express should be ‘reconsidered’ due to Elizabeth line success

There is an article in the latest edition of RailWatch written by Steve Costello which offers a new twist on his company's plans. (Not yet shown on the Heathrow Southern Access website.) In addition to the original suggestions for Southern Access, the article suggests an alternative route to...

What does 6 and 3 stub platforms at Euston mean for hs2?

I remember some speculative videos on YouTube about the plans for Crossrail 2 and the accompanying changes at Euston needed to cope with the transfers between HS2 and Crossrail 2.

Staff discretion to open doors at unscheduled station stops

Back in the late 70s I used to live near Padgate (Near Warrington) and there were times at the weekend when the station was closed. I always asked the driver if they would stop for me to get off and never received a refusal. It saved me going to Warrington and getting a bus back.

Are the government being complacent about growing freight when GBR takes over?

The government seems to be planning to increase freight by 75%. With GBR being responsible for allowing freight operators to run trains on paths that are protected from being used by passenger services. Is this going to work in reality? My question has been prompted by a question by Lord Moylan...

Issues at Basingstoke Yesterday Afternoon 18 Mar 2026

I was listening to the announcements on Platform 8. I did not hear an announcement about a train at 17:15. At Guildford I had some difficulty getting access to Real Time Trains, so I did not know about it.

Issues at Basingstoke Yesterday Afternoon 18 Mar 2026

I wonder if someone can enlighten me about the cause of the disruption on my journey from Waterloo to Basingstoke on 18-Mar-26. I was on the 16:05 to Weymouth, and when we got to Woking, The train stopped for a while, we were told there was a points problem at Basingtsoke and we should get off...

Has the Elizabeth Line ended any possibility of there ever being a service from Paddington to Basingstoke?

I don't know what it is like now. But 20 years ago, when I was working at the BBC in Wood Lane, it was much better to travel to and from Paddington. In the Morning, there was no issue with having to wait for a train at Reading, but in the evening, my train from Paddington always seemed to arrive...

Has the Elizabeth Line ended any possibility of there ever being a service from Paddington to Basingstoke?

There was an article on the Time Out website this week. https://www.timeout.com/london/news/a-brand-new-railway-line-could-serve-londons-biggest-airport-030926 I believe the main issue with connecting to Woking, Guildford and Basingstoke is the Level Crossings between Virginia Water and the...

Camp Hill line - progress updates

It about time. I lost count of the number of times I sat in traffic jams on the number 50 bus from Kings Heath to the city centre, wishing I could have caught a train to school. I am now 72! I used to live about halfway between Cartland Road and the number 50 bus stop, so a walk to Pineapple...

Potential new West London Orbital route

It was planned to be completed about a year after Ealing Broadway to Heathrow. Then, they realised it was a very difficult job and that everything would have to be modified multiple times during the construction and again when OOC was finished, because the track layout was being completely...
