Ordinary passengers using heritage railways as public transport.

We did indeed have a schools train but it's not run for a long time. At the R&ER we do get people who work or live along Eskdale using the train from time to time. Also as mentioned in other comments we get backpackers & campers off the mainline, usually going Ravenglass - Irton Road.

Evening, I'm in the process of planning my summer holidays (end of july) but the 2024 timetable isn't available yet. Does anyone have last years summer timetable that I could use as a rough guide please?

Anything open 9/10 or 16/17 March?

Ravenglass & Eskdale is operating daily from 16th March. Easy interchange from the mainline.

Merseyrail legacy fleet updates (Class 507/508)

I had a meeting in Liverpool tonight and with the info from this thread in hand went to have a ride on 508104. Caught at 22:06 from Birkenhead Park & went round the loop to James Street. Images show the unit on arrival at Birkenhead and then at James Street after going round the loop. Daft...

Your Operator of the Year 2023

I usually travel with Northern or TPE, however I've had to make a few journeys with TfW this year & they have been very good, particularly when other services have been cancelled. Worst has been TPE with the most delays. Recently I've had to claim delay repay for each week for a journey with...

Northern class 319 diagrams ending November 2023.

You can usually find them on Liverpool Lime Street - Wigan North Western, Liverpool Lime Street - Blackpool North, Liverpool Lime Street - Manchester Airport/Crewe. Manchester Piccadilly - Crewe. Liverpool - Manchester Victoria. That's off the top of my head.

Minimum Service Levels Bill receives Royal Assent

I'd be surprised if they did. Bear in mind the labour leader banned his MPs to join unions on picket lines. I hope I'm wrong.

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

When I set the thread going I had in mind journeys you can do now. Otherwise we'd really end up down a rabbit hole.

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

Even with the 345's on the Shenfield run & the service frequency? 1685990779 How could anyone dislike the people movers? 1685990972 This is one of my local routes & yes I agree it's in direct need of upgrade. The saving grace is three coach 158's & some of the platform roofs at Atherton and...

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

Certainly not pretty, however I was thinking end-end journeys rather than a section of line.

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

Yes that's definitely the low point of the route.

Worst Railway Journeys in the UK

A couple of years ago I got a Spirit of Scotland rover & did some wonderful journeys, particularly over the West Highland & Highland main line. There's also the likes of the Cumbrian Coast & Vale of Rheidol & even Calder Valley which I've done recently which were lovely. However, what are...

Longest railway journey on a single train in the UK

Re: Glasgow Subway, it's 6.5 miles so rough calculation, 752.5÷6.5=116 (rounded up). Do any of the Subway units do 116 trips around the loop in a day?
