    [FI] First revenue train Oulu-Haaparanta

When the new night trains are in service in Sweden, they should reduce the travel time a bit. And Norrbotniabanan and the current upgrades on Ostkustbanan should cut down the travel time by a couple of hours.

    Isolated, and Very Isolated, railways

Roslagsbanan is very interesting in many ways. An odd gauge (891 mm) but has pretty modern standard, mostly double track, modern signalling and continuous welded track. But north of Vallentuna it gets very rural and the northern end is the small village Kårsta.

Things which cause bus boarding/alighting to be slower now than 40 years ago.

That is a good question. Here is one of the local buses in Enköping (town population ~27000). https://www.bussmicke.se/Bildgalleri/Bussar/Sverige/K/Keolis/8600/index.html#img=Keolis_8608_Bangardsgatan_Enkoping_2022-09-20.jpg

    Isolated, and Very Isolated, railways

Stockholm has two isolated local railways. Roslagsbanan, a narrow gauge railway that serves the northeastern suburbs. And Saltsjöbanan to the southeastern suburbs. Saltsjöbanan is standard gauge but not connected to the national rail network and electrified with 750 V overhead wire.

Where I live, two door buses are used for regional routes with less frequent stops. City buses usually have three sets of doors, bendy buses sometimes have four. If that is important, you can install a speaker close the driver and connect it to a microphone close to the rear door. Problem solved.

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

I'd say there is an indication in the wording they use for the restaurant service. And the schedule matches IC38 and IC37 pretty well.

I can't imagine that being a problem. And in any case, just close the restaurant when the train is in Sweden. It's not uncommon for restaurant cars to not open until a few minutes after departure anyway.

[SE/FI] Updated: Haparanda - Tornio trains funded, expected to start 2026

I don't think Norrtåg will change their schedule before the schedule change in December. But hopefully there are discussions between Norrtåg and VR on how to improve the situation.

    Brexit matters

As a EU citizen, I agree. Something like that would be a start. It would be madness to actually spend time on membership negogiations with the UK, only to have Reform win the next election. Do I want the UK back as member? Yes, eventually. But not at the moment.

I assume finnish time, so 22.44 swedish time.

DSB Talgo - start of passenger operation

Or maybe they solved the problem? But it was a rumour I heard and I don't know more than that.

DSB Talgo - start of passenger operation

From what I've heard, they realised that it could be problematic running with a loco in each end to Germany. During the stop in Padborg, one loco would be under 15 kV and the other under 25 kV.

[FI] Turku City Council votes yes to a tram

I followed the live reporting from Yle for a while and it's interesting to see that the vote did not follow the party lines perfectly. The Greens all voted yes, and the Swedish People's party, the Centre party and the True Finns all voted no. But the Left and the Coalition party (conservative)...
