I arrived at Victoria platform 13 today at 12:12 from Gatwick (my local station so not a tourist and I consider myself comparatively "fare savvy") on a "Southern service operated by Gatwick Express".

As I recall the Surbiton terminator ran ECS to Hampton Court but I don't know if the guard decanted at Surbiton. If not, any reason why it couldn't/didn't run in service for the last leg?
That's what I had thought. Unfortunately I wasn't able to check if the barriers were coded to reject as I was travelling on Oyster. Having said that it will be interesting to see if I'll Oyster charges me peak or off-peak rates for my journeys today!
