Who or what decided that 5 cars meet the profile of the route and services to be operated? Has there been any detailed assessment of numbers and or future growth? These units would likely be in service for 30 years plus and surely 5 car units might not be the best tool for the job in the longer...
I think £92k outlay is not bad at all for a long career. I am 26 and been flying since 15 it has always been there. Whilst earning over £70k in the UK been offered a tax free position with a well known gulf carrier so will likely make the move. It works out over £9k per month tax free with...
Not sure what is fantasy land my ATPL cost £92k it can be done for £65k it is possible although for that money it will be frozen. I work for a well known carrier although not a captain and it is not BA and whilst I do not want to mention the specific figure it is more than £70k.
It is possible to have an ATPL frozen for £65k. Well worth the effort in the long run. Some of the tax free salaries for first officers in the Gulf are more than £80k tax free with all living costs paid for and it is possible to be earning that with minimal flying past the ATPL. £70k driving a...
Do you know how much effort it takes to get an ATPL and of course the money plus the skill? It takes much more than a group bourdon test and 12 months training. With 15 years experience it is possible to be earning the equivalent of £150k plus as a captain. Not to mention many parts of the world...
You can turn to a rail system that is operated by the private sector yet has a £5 billion plus debt, far higher than under BR years. Please forgive the grammar I went to school in the Uk.
Have been to over 20 countries in the last four years alone and the UK rail network is poor, my statement stands some of the recent trains are awful and clearly behind much of the world in regards to travel comfort. I actuallty enjoyed the seats on some of the Indian trains last year and for...
Iron board type seats makes no sense. They are inferior for sure, maybe to the current railway scene for the UK it is acceptable e.g. the same one that thinks the Class 700 units are 'modern' go and travel to other countries! It is really sad how far the railway's have fallen all whilst many...
These lightweight fuel efficient Class 185 units are some of the best units on the network and Northern should use for as long as they can. The seats are good quality and they have a fair degree of comfort. My ideal positon is standing next to the internal section that the exhaust takes up, you...
That would need to be cleared with the DfT, and we must ensure a ROSCO is able to make an eight figure income from the leasing of the rolling stock. The passenger can always pay higher fares as needed and the DfT\government\media can manipulate as needed to ensure people feel it is good value...
I would go back to the days of a productive rail system and operate mail via the late hours. Considering the rail network pays no fuel duty compared to road transport quite sad this traffic can not operate during the late hours at a rate that is commerically viable.
I would operate a similar route but with slightly different semantics, Manchester Airport to London City with an Airbus A318 with a flight time of 35 to 40 minutes. Would skip the stops at Stafford and Crewe.
Wick to Penzance operated by a single Class 153 unit. Via the West Coast, it would have the benefit of a mobile catering service. In order to seat more passengers would remove the toilet. Would naturally apply fresh vynls to the units and provide some market guff to keep people happy and promote...
