Agree. In addition, the DfT or local authority needs to be granted powers to insist that [for example] the 555 service from Grasmere & Ambleside connects into trains at Windermere in the evenings - ie when bus frequency is low. At present a 555 bus arrives at 20:43 precisely 2 minutes after a...
Do we know whether all the work planned to be done during this recent blockade was finished as scheduled, or did the exceptional heat & humidity of recent days slow things down?
West Midlands website updated today states that roadworks outside Kings Heath & Pineapple Road stations are complete and that the stations are expected to open in Spring 2026. Anyone got any information regarding whether 'Spring' is likely to mean March. April, or May?
Would I be correct in thinking that the line will probably not open until about Easter 2026 ? My understanding is that it is expected that most of the work on the stations should be finished by the end of 2025 but that this will need to be followed by staff training?
Back in 2014 the decision should have been taken to build an avoiding line inland and leave the fate of the existing line to nature or other govt departments. I said something similar on this forum at the time.
Due to the stupidity of our species in refusing to adequately address the cause of...
I was recently informed by a member of staff that the cause of the Northern cancellations in the North West is the DfT refusing to allow depots to recruit sufficient staff. Can anyone confirm [or otherwise] that this is the main cause of the cancellations?
Surely this can be done without providing a significant number of additional services? Simply run the existing Bradford FS - Leeds electric trains through to York in slots currently occupied by diesel services. These diesel services [presumably from the other Bradford station] would then...
Broken down train on northbound line between Preston & Lancaster. Don't know why it is taking so long to move it. Has been stuck for about 2.5 hrs now.
There is a much cheaper option that would make travelling to destinations such as Ambleside & Grasmere more attractive. Legislation to put the local authority in charge of bus timetables with an instruction that buses should connect with trains at Windermere.
Consider the current timetables. The...
Actually in some ways I think this is a rather good assessment of where we are at, unfortunately. The science regarding the cause of rising temperatures over the last 70 years is proven to the level of 'beyond reasonable doubt', but many politicians are operating in denial mode by simply...
I am aware that we have been asked not to discuss this subject, but this misleading post must not be allowed to go unanswered. Global temperatures can go up or down due to variations in (a) solar strength and (b) distance from the sun due to orbit. However solar strength has been declining for...
The post covid financial situation is indeed a worry, particularly as rail investment may be seen as an easy target.
Anyway, I will say no more on general economics as don't wish to take thread off at a tangent.
