Yeah but if it's crammed in more then airflow is worse, heat from the bits in the middle finds it harder to escape etc. The geometry and volume of a system is an important part of heat management. But also yeah I'm speculating wildly.
It would also not surprise me if the HVAC was cheap and nasty.
As I said above, I'm going to make a guess this is a result of pushing the limits of thermal management. The 810s have crammed all the gubbins from a "normal" bi-mode 80x into a smaller space and so I'm thinking the fans have to work very hard to remove heat from the train (both from the AC and...
I was my understand that at least some issues with the 810s are due to heat (though not necessarily to do with the engines). But this is just something I've picked up from the forum (e.g. below quotes), not anything I really know...
Can they really gun the engines and get a decent speed up at Long Marston? I wonder if the issue is one that running at 50mph round the Long Marston loop just won't find and that you need to drive it like you would on the mainline. Especially since one known issue with the 810s is heat...
Good to see progress! Is there an actual timetable yet? I'm interested in what connection time there will be to/from Marston Vale services at Bletchley.
Very loud external fans and having issues with thermal control are probably related. If you need to move a lot of air and you haven't got the space to make the fans bigger, you can at least make them more powerful.
Just got on to be told "the fault on this train has reoccured so we will be further delayed".
How do you think they'd respond to me asking "hey, do you mind telling me what the fault is so I can post it on railforums?"
Never mind, cancelled at Kettering. Everyone onto the following Aurora! The...
222016 started 6L at St Pancras and has slowly lost time since then. Currently patiently waiting for it at Kettering.
Edit: I'm not a master at interpreting RTT but I don't think there is/was anything in front of it to slow it down.
Well as bad as it was at Nottingham today, it was even worse at Leicester. I think both platforms 1 and 2 went out of action forcing everything to use 3 and 4. Lots of confusion and delay. Then as my XC was pulling in it had to stop suddenly because I think someone nearly fell off the platform...
Services eastbound out of Nottingham (Newark/Grantham bound) are not doing well.
Sat on a 158 at Nottingham (1L14) with no aircon waiting for a departure that might not come.
