Great Central Railway News and Updates

Should be some good variety with the home fleet two Standard 2s, Standard 5, Hall, and Austerity also all in steam at the moment.

Transport for Wales - Pot Noodles from the trolley?

Or quite a useful thing to have in the kitchen cupboard/work locker for a quick fairly substantial hot meal if you're in a rush. Consumed in moderation (like anything) it's fine. Should we be banning everything that can bad for you? Where would you draw the line?

Lines which could do with improved signalling headways/more aspects

Worth noting that just increasing the number of aspects on signal posts while not shortening block sections will increase the headway. The number of aspects loosely correlates with line speed and braking distances (among other considerations, I'm sure someone else will have a better...

    Future of the 350/2s

Maybe during the off peak with a SC that's on the ball. Even at 6am with 5 passengers getting on I'd bet the average dwell for a 350 is more like 45-50s. There's a reason 350s pick up so much sub-threshold delay on the Coventry corridor with nothing in front of them, and most of those dwells...

AWC Derailment at Shap Summit 03/11/25

Quite, this would be a notably bigger issue if the sensor assets were commissioned and in use. I'd imagine the full RAIB report will explore the commissioning process and how those assets specifically were developed/commissioned.

Email from TfW that JourneyCheck alerts will no longer be available from 1st January 2026

Signalbox maps can be misleading though, it does not use train GPS data, just the same open data feeds RTT, OTT, Traksy, etc, use. Don't quite understand the hype on it personally. Fantastic opportunity for GBR to do it's own jouneycheck equivalent in the next few years. Especially one that can...

Seriously, how can anyone use the railway for long distance commuting?

From someone who commutes from the midlands up the WCML 3/4 times a week days like Thursday happen once every couple of months (if that), I claim my delay repay and remind myself how much more expensive and stressful it would be to drive when fuel, insurance, and wear & tear are considered.

Train ran fast with no warning causing passengers to be overcarried (10/11/25)

Something similar seems to happen pretty well on London Northwestern 350s, quite often when a late call to skip-stops on the the Coventry Corridor the PIS has updated before the senior conductor has had a chance to make an announcement. I wonder if it's done automatically (by control) or...

Train ran fast with no warning causing passengers to be overcarried (10/11/25)

It should have been announced over the PA before leaving the last stop before skip-stopping. If any passenger has been over carried they should be able to complete their journey on their ticket and be able to claim delay repay. Will also be worth making a complaint to the operator.
