All cross country services suspended 23/08/26

The bit that confuses me. Obviously there was a fault in one location, potentially wiping out the local backup. But wouldn’t a simple solution, given presumably a lot of these systems are cloud based or have cloud backup, for ALL of the TOCs, or different bits of GBR in the future, be to...

    Caledonian Sleeper

The actual reason is that the length of the Inverness half set, added to the Aberdeen quarter set and Fort William quarter set, with their sleeping and lounge cars, would exceed 16 cars, and therefore wouldn’t fit into platform 1 and 15 at Euston. Therefore the arrangement has long been the...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Also an interesting question - in these days of data logging and post event scrutiny. If - and obviously god forbid and all that, but using the example of one of the recent derailments in the South East, there was an email trail from a passenger which had been shut down / dismissed without...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Asking because I don't know - imagining a move Polmadie to Wembley or vice versa were being organised - if I am sat in GBRF/CS control at 2am looking at a screen with a dead train at Milton Keynes, what would be the process to decide / arrange that move, and what would be the most common...

First Rail Stirling (Lumo) Rolling Stock

Ssshhh - remember this Open Access is all about bringing the opportunities of Milton Keynes to the people of Greenfaulds and definitely not at all about the London Glasgow Trade

    Loganair

https://www.bbc.com/news/articles/c2dk81pg6gxo Reported today that the Dundee Heathrow route will come to an end in October. With the Southampton and Exeter news last week, tough times for a small airline with these unprofitable routes.

Lumo running train with no toilets

well obviously as per delay repay the at fault operator would foot the bill, unless it was force majeure or whatever the phrase is. However, the broader point of why "privatised" rail doesn't work is that it is ultimately not acceptable for Avanti or FGW to fail (as in cease operating) - and...

Lumo running train with no toilets

I would have thought something GBR could do, usefully, is to take the decision out of the hands of self serving operators - whether they be OA or not - as discussed in another thread today about service gaps left by cancellations - we (GBR) are not asking you to accept lumo tickets, or to put in...

    Caledonian Sleeper

I do think these kind of things are what make “Joe Public” needlessly infuriated. Given the tiny number of passengers (particularly the high tourist) kind of passengers - surely any reasonable route, and ScotRail staff using some discretion / judgment is not beyond the wit of these control rooms...

Should TOCs abandon social media sites as a means to communicate with customers regarding disruption/service updates?

Given the number of methods by which buying a ticket now involves data collection - and how interconnected most customer services platforms are - I’d think hitting reply to your confirmation text or email, or logging in to whatever platform you bought the tickets on, or were browsing tickets if...

    Easyjet news

Suspect the announcement will be met with all sorts of grand reassurances that what always happens will not happen (remember Morrisons as it fades into obscurity anyone ?) Before negligent politicians feign great surprise when the inevitable happens. Whilst profitable routes will doubtless...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Obviously with the caveats that they operate one of the most complicated networks where a single point of failure can have a knock on for the entirety of the service that night, and sometimes the next one too, and with the caveat winters can be especially tough for the sleepers given the terrain...

    Major Incident at Huntingdon (01/11/2025)

Can only try to imagine how completely grim this must have been for those injured, those witnessing, and those waiting for news. One can only hope for a swift recovery for the injured and all the staff and passengers involved get the support they need. I think the trauma of being in proximity...

    Caledonian Sleeper

Sure. As I said, I have no insight, it is the latter exchange, which I am interested in. It is shorthand, but presumably for the retailer (the operator in this instance) the cost of Delay Repay to the business creates the imperative to recover attributable costs from those suppliers you mention.
