Is it such a big deal? I take the car by ferry to Dublin once a year and me and my fellow passengers always have a passport as ID. Only been asked for ID once (Dublin) in last three years but we live in different times now as witnessed by German Police joining trains at border crossings.
There are many low paid workers out in society who serve your train drivers 7 days a week. i don’t begrudge their salaries but using the tax reason, which you have oversimplified to make a point, does no credit to the issue being debated.
Surely the seating arrangements, space and ambience are the key reasons why people use Eurostar Plus. . It's a bit like getting a bacon cob on EMR First Class in a morning. Nice , but not the reason you're traveling First Class . The food is secondary
Was on the new unit in May. Surprised that only one Unit turned up for 7.20 from Loughborough.(Usually two ) First Class was almost full before Leicester. Lot of unhappy first class passengers although I did manage to get a seat when I asked somebody to move his bag.
Good ride though and they...
Planning on doing Brussels to Vienna next year. My expectations are quite low to mediocre but I think the possibility of using just one travel day to get from Loughborough to Vienna is quite compelling. Leonardo Hotels will be my home for 2 nights.
I have sympathy with ES because they are...
Just to put a different tone to reliability of DB.
Ive just returned from a trip which I encountered zero reliability issues
with DB. Paris to Strasbourg( the Frankfurt ICE train)
Strasbourg to Karlsruhe, Karlsruhe to Munich followed by regional to Passau.
Passau to Vienna (ICE)
Nuremberg to...
I only use Plus when I'm travelling using my Interrail Pass. The food is a bonus for me although I wish they'd extend breakfast offering to include the 10.30 departure to Paris.
I was in Passau, Nuremberg and Düsseldorf last 2weeks and only encountered a cash only situation in an Irish Bar in Passau(popped in to watch Villa Liverpool).
Even the Toilets in the stations were allowing contactless). Very widespread acceptance of cards but always sensible to have some cash...
There is a direct train from Paris Bercy to Lyon Part Dieu which goes about 7.30 in morning. Also at 15.35, direct.
lyon to Geneva
Geneva to Zurich.
All reservation free.
id recommend a stay in Lyon,
I tend to use Eurostar Plus when I have a First Class Interrail Pass.( one advantage of being old). If I had to pay full fare, I’d probably sit in Standard. As I invariably go for the 11.04, Ive probably had a bacon cob on EMR from Loughborough first and if I’m heading South via Lille,I’d...
I was in a similar situation in Marseilles last year. Copper cable thefts between Marseilles and Toulon, brought the whole network from Marseilles to Nice, to a standstill. You can’t realistically plan for such things happening but I commend SNCF for looking after its passengers. I was on a...
Get an Interrail Pass and travel
11.04 to Lille Europe
14.01 Lille Europe to Marseille
Expected arrival time in Marseille 18.45. Done it twice now starting from Loughborough at 07.50.
Can any trains currently heading to Gare du Nord actually be rerouted to Gare de Lyon? . Destinations increase dramatically if that is the case but I’m sure I’m probably thinking ‘too much out of the box’.
