That is incorrect. What was proposed then was indeed that we would lose the 1718 and 1720 and gain a 1645. There was only a vague hope that a new train would be run around 1720.

Whatever the reason, jcollins, they exist to serve people and they are well used. You do not just pull them to make long distance trains faster. I note you are no longer disputing that Chinley services will be worse.

These changes have all come about to allow a new train at 1814 from Sheffield to Manchester and it will clearly benefit those who will use that. However no calculations as to relative benefit (how many would benefit from Sheffield cf how many would lose out from Manchester) have ever been...

Let's get it straight. Chinley currently has 2 slow services and 3 fast between 1630 and 1800 (1643, 1718, 1720, 1743, 1748). With the new timetable there will be 3 slow services and 2 fast services in that time (1643, 1645, 1723, 1743, 1748) with one fewer fast out of the 1700-1800 period...

So for any station that happens to have a better service it is fine to knock it down to the lowest common denominator. Not a great argument is it?

Yes we Chinley commuters who have been fighting to protect our services have had this information confirmed. The main changes for us are we lose the fast 1720 and the slow 1718 and gain a slow 1645 and a slow 1723. We therefore lose the most popular service (1720 TPE) at the peak 5-6pm hour...
