Bus services that require reversing (except in bus stations)

West Coast Motors’ 95 (Craignure-Tobermory) does a three point turn on the journeys which serve Fishnish ferry terminal.

TransPennine Express: "Fault with the catering trolley"

Travelled on the 1612 Glasgow-Liverpool on Saturday; the attendant was very pleasant and quite happy for us to take a few things from the snack tray as she didn’t know what hot meals if any she’d have until Carlisle. As it turned out, she did get a few, but only two of anything. The previous...

Companies That You Expect to Disappear Soon

Fort William is closing and taking the post office with it. Residents very unhappy as Royal Mail’s suggested alternatives until new premises can be found are the sub post offices in Corpach and Spean Bridge. The nearest full service PO is Oban.

Why should I trust rail travel?

My mother reached this stage about 20 years ago, when she should have been about 60. Having an arthritic back and knees, she was limited in what she could carry, as my father would have to carry her clothes as well as his own, so her rule was that she would travel anywhere that had a direct...

Loss of Signalling - Various Across Yorkshire 11/7/26

Combined with the fire alarm which took York control down for about an hour on Wednesday morning, this isn‘t a good look. There‘s nothing worse than being lied to in a disruption situation.

Ticket inspectors and gateline staff sometimes not checking tickets properly or at all

Merseyrail guards and inspectors don’t yet have the means to check that a card has been tapped in at the start of a journey, it seems - several times I’ve produced my bank card from my pocket having tapped in.

Heat related disruption 8 July 2026 onwards

Fire evacuation at York signalling centre, we’ve been told - was supposed to be on the 0945 Leeds-Sheffield Yorkshire Flyer (cancelled) but now on the 0932 Lincoln now leaving 17 mins late.

The Naming of the 'Big Four' - who decided and how? Controversial?

I suspect that being a suburban electric system with two routes and only seven stations, the Mersey Railway was considered more akin to the likes of the Liverpool Overhead Railway or the Metropolitan and best managed locally. The Wirral Railway was steam operated and had access to Birkenhead...

    East Lancs Railway

I was there yesterday - a little bit low key by comparison with some past ELR galas, but compared to the KWVR a few weeks ago, a much better timetable with 15-20 minutes at each end and plenty of time at Bury, so no need for people to charge around to get their photos.

    Enduring anachronisms

From memory (some work I did about 15 years ago) some of the county councils in that area - I think it might have been Northants, Beds and Cambs- merged their legal departments.

    KWVR NEWS AND UPDATES

Not the first time I’ve known the coach party issue happen - on one occasion it was a Vintage Trains Sunday and the coach party were given all the Victorian coaches, pushing everybody else into a Mark 1 suburban brake and defeating the object of marketing it as a vintage train day. Still, not...

    King Charles III coins

I was given my first Charles III 5p last week although on seeing the oak leaf, my first thought was that somebody had tried to slip me a pfennig!

    Northern Explorer - new ticket?

While I see your point, there’s nothing to stop you going York-Hull-Scarborough and stopping off at a few interesting places along the way.
