Audley End-Cambridge North closure, 16-17 April

According to the Greater Anglia website, the West Anglia line is closed between Audley End and Cambridge North, Thurs 16 April to Fri 17 April https://www.greateranglia.co.uk/travel-information/service-alterations/cambridge-north-audley-end-15 But their Journey Planner seems to show direct...

Long Buckby to Oxford - several times!

I realise this is circumventing the core question, but if all else fails I'd take the train to Milton Keynes and then the Stagecoach X5 bus to Oxford (£3 one way). Takes a little longer, for sure, but significantly cheaper. And it drops you in the centre of Oxford.

Is it mandatory to have an itinerary with you when travelling?

Is it mandatory to carry a copy of an itinerary with you when travelling? OK, sometimes a whole itinerary can be reconstructed from the printed seat reservation information, but often it can't. Am I obliged to be able to produce my itinerary if there's any sort of dispute about using a certain...

London area to Manea - LNER pricing

Depends which definition of "trial" you go with. This is one of the options (source: Cambridge Dictionary website): "a person or thing that is annoying..." ;-)

Railcard renewal - demanding mobile number

Most of these systems aren't set up to be at all clever. Just a series of zeros is often all it takes to kid them you've provided a "mobile number"...

What has been your longest rail replacement taxi?

A decade ago I was provided with a taxi one wintry Saturday morning from Barmouth to Machynlleth - on arrival at Mach the driver checked with control and was authorised to take me all the way to Shrewsbury ( hadn't even asked). Would have been cheaper to pay the Delay Repay!

    Cross Country poor engineering information

I definitely saw rail replacement buses at Cambridge yesterday morning with "Ely" as their destination. Whether that's proof of anything, I don't know...

Car damage by level crossing barriers (27/07)

Highway code para 291: "Never drive onto a crossing until the road is clear on the other side." Since your mate shouldn't have started to cross until the road was clear, I'm afraid it's between him and his own insurance company. Compared to what could have happened I'd say he's a lucky guy...

    Delay Repay question

Whatever the issues with your LNWR service, you were on your booked train at Crewe. Even though you managed that only because it was also late (I'm sure we've all experienced that situation at some point!). So your late arrival at Windermere is entirely down to Avanti.

Preference to buy tickets from a ticket office

Whenever I'm down there, Cambridge station usually has three staff on duty. And a steady flow of customers (perhaps because there are so many visitors?). Interestingly, it's the ticket machines that are visibly under-used. Which suggests that the vast majority of passengers are either using...

London off-peak Day Travelcard from Cambridge - what am I missing?

I hadn't thought of that! The Thameslink website doesn't have a dedicated time restriction, merely "off peak", so no issue in that regard. And I guess there's nothing illegal in buying a 6-year-old an "adult" ticket, even if it seems counter-intuitive (plus so many things around ticketing seem...

London off-peak Day Travelcard from Cambridge - what am I missing?

I only cross-checked against the NR website. My mistake! I don't think I've ever booked anything via the Thameslink site (or GN either). I'm sending them to the ticket office in the morning with handwritten instructions, in case of any language difficulties. Thanks to you both for your...
