East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

Perhaps it's time to change the title of the thread as countdown implies progress.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

If that is so then it is a very weak excuse and demonstrates the lack of urgency/eagerness I mentioned.

East-West Rail (EWR) countdown to entry into service

To an outsider the impression is that there is absolutely no sense of urgency/eagerness to get the new service running. In almost any other industry there would be huge pressure to make money out of the investment made. How much longer must we wait?

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Well, being local, I had to go and take a look didn't I (it was a good excuse to run the A/C in the car). It all looked perfectly OK, to the point that I didn't bother taking a photo. The only remarkable thing was 3 guys in full orange working in near 40 degree heat! I presume you were...

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

For those (like me) wondering how the rail is moved ahead of the track layer, here is a photo I took from the Whaddon/Mursley Road on Saturday.

East-West Rail (EWR): Oxford-Bletchley construction progress

Not quite - there are two gaps. One is the small gap between the box over the WCML and an original pier ( sorry, I don't know the pier numbers). The second is behind the Golden Curry restaurant. For those interested in progress it's worth keeping an eye on...

    Compulsory Reservations- Poll

I voted no. I think compulsory reservations (post covid) is a bonkers idea. Why would I want to lose the flexibility of a turn up and go ticket? I would be far less likely to use the train if I had to make and then use a reservation.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

Yes. Excellent news! I came back to this thread expecting much jubilation and metaphorical high fiving. What I got was grumpy complaints about how much and pedantic complaints about use of stock pictures.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

If big cranes are your thing then Bletchley is the place to be. Both photos taken from the same spot. In the background of the first photo you can see the first sections of the 'main' span over the Buckingham Road have been removed. They seemed to be setting up to do more lifts but it was far...

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

A couple of photos taken on today's bike ride. The first shows the results of the last span that was removed (in sections). The second shows the new crane which wasn't doing anything as I passed by. Lots more pictures taken by someone more local that me can be seen in the link I posted here.

East-West Rail (EWR): Consultation updates [not speculation]

For those interested in progress then this thread on another forum is well worth wading through. Lots of recent stuff on the Flyover but also some very interesting historical context/photos carefully hidden within the usual dross of multiple reposts and off topic excursions etc...

    Milton Keynes platform 6

Well that's solved a mystery for me! MKC is my local station and since the revamp I've often wondered why P2 wasn't a through platform. It looked so obvious that all you needed to do was to get a really big crayon and draw a line from the buffers to the up slow :)

Blackpool North: The most unfriendly station in the country?

Ever so slightly Off Topic but I just realised that the jigsaw I'm currently doing is of a Blackpool station. A little research suggests this is probably the old Blackpool Central (no details are given - the title of the jigsaw is 'Summer Showers'!).

    Disused lines with cycle paths

Re: Brampton Valley Way. Recommended - the unlit tunnels are surreal to cycle through with headlights off (carefully of course).
