Years ago, maybe last century, they upgraded the red lights on Winter Hill transmitter mast, so they are visible from some distance which helps when looking from the Isle Of Man etc!. Think the Big One at Blackpool also has red navigation lights, although I don't think it's as tall as the tower.

Will there be a first-class option? Also - would the route demand a couple of reversals (Birmingham/Redhill)??

An update - probably counts as a "station pub" as it's visible and just across the way, but in Bolton the Sweet Green Tavern has been closed for a while (maybe a year) and it's up for sale at around £200k; it's supposed to be retained as a pub but who knows? Does it have to be rail? A walking tunnel between Euston and St Pancras/King's Cross would be handy! But if it has to be rail I'd fill the gap between Tottenham Ct Rd and Picc Circus with a new station for Soho. It's about a mile (maybe less?) does that count?
